We are studying in English Language teaching department and we took 2 translation courses during our 4 year education in this department. The first one was English to Turkish and I found that easier than this because it is much easier to translate things in our native language. In Turkish to English translation course I had hard times while I was translating a text although I think I am competent enough in English. As Turkish is our native language and weknow almost everything about our language and culture the previouse translation course was easier. I haven’t realized until I took this course that knowing the culture is really important for the translation studies. This is the most importan thing that this course contributed to my professional development. I have been thinking to become a translator but in this course I realized that this is not exactly whatever I want because we saw all the sides of translation studies both good and bad. I have learnt that this is a proffesion that really needs patience and I don’t have that patience. If you are a translator you need to wait for some time until you get some good results. This course was very beneficial form e I have learnt many terms that are related to translation and I think this will be useful in my future proffesion because whatever we will do in thefuture, we will have to do something with English and translation. People will continue to see us as translator although we haven’t graduated from translation department. And we will have to do some translations in our proffesion.
